The Human Journey

Posted On: November 22, 2023

Human beings are incredible animals. We have traveled a long way through deep time to arrive at our current state.

What brought us here is our ability to move, to perceive, and to interact with our environment. Modern human life has made certain concessions to progress, and the one with the heaviest price was paid to sedentary living. Our bodies are and always have been how we experience the world, and all living organisms explore their world, to varying degrees, by movement. In very real terms, we have lost our sense of exploration.

The Latin root of the word explore means’ to search out.’ To seek. To find meaning by literally, physically embarking into the unknown. It is a core trait of existence. Everything that perceives, explores. Everything that grows – everything that decays or changes – moves.

As humans, we, too, are natural movers. Shakers. Seekers. Imaginative storytellers and dreamers. Uniquely evolved for exploring and weaving narratives about what we do, experience, and find.

  • To reclaim a sense of ourselves, to drive our own evolution, we must foster this urge to explore.
  • To explore the abilities of our bodies.
  • To explore our world.
  • To connect to reality through our perception.
  • To expand our minds.

To deepen awareness by casting off fear, welcoming discomfort, dreaming possibilities, and exploring with abandon the depths and outer edges of what it means to be a human animal in the world.

To get there – to get anywhere – we had better get moving.

Everyone who embarks upon a fitness journey is, by definition, an explorer. A seeker, constantly arriving in an unknown place. Each step into the unknown sheds a sliver of fear and builds up resilience to slight and suffering.

For the seeker, even if the right questions are asked, the answers will be hard-won. And the things sought that really hold meaning are those that take everything to find.
